San Francisco rookie RB Jordan James suffered a broken finger and will miss a few weeks, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic.
What They're Saying
Barrows: “Rookie RB Jordan James broke a finger, is having surgery and will miss a couple of weeks. Healthy 49ers tailbacks:
Christian McCaffrey
Patrick Taylor Jr.
Corey Kiner
Ameer Abdullah”
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
James may be a 5th-round rookie, but this is certainly notable. With RB Isaac Guerendo already sidelined for a few weeks with a shoulder injury, the 49ers suddenly find themselves thin behind RB Christian McCaffrey.
Earlier this summer, Guerendo was the presumed handcuff to McCaffrey. Now, that role might suddenly be up for grabs. And with McCaffrey missing 14 games due to injury over the past two seasons, having that security is crucial, especially considering he is going to be your first-round selection in fantasy drafts. If everyone in this backfield is healthy, Guerendo should be the backup to McCaffrey, making him the handcuff to target in fantasy drafts.
We’ll track the status of both backups, but for now, it appears McCaffrey is once again poised for a massive workload in 2025. Let’s hope he can hold up.
