Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson is currently dealing with a back contusion, though it isn’t considered serious, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.
What They're Saying
Archer: “Jake Ferguson is dealing with a back contusion suffered Thursday, according to a source. Not considered serious so Cowboys avoid a scare with their starting tight end.”
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Ferguson took a hard hit from LB Kenneth Murray during Thursday’s practice, forcing him to the Dallas locker room. But according to Archer, it is nothing more than a minor back contusion that shouldn’t put his Week 1 status in any jeopardy.
Although Ferguson was a disappointment in fantasy last year, injuries to both him and QB Dak Prescott played a major factor. But when Prescott was healthy from Weeks 1-9, Ferguson averaged 7.4 targets, 5.4 receptions, 47.7 receiving yards and 10.2 PPR points per game. The latter would have been good enough for TE11 in fantasy over the course of a full season. WR George Pickens will now surely finish second on the team in targets, but given Dallas’ up-tempo offense and high pass rate, there should be ample opportunity for Ferguson to play a large role.
Consider Ferguson a low-end TE on draft day. He currently checks in at TE12 in our rankings.
