The Bills and RB James Cook have agreed to a four-year, $48 million deal with $30 million guaranteed, according to his agent. That makes Cook the league's sixth highest paid RB in average annual salary, just ahead of Kyren Williams' new deal at $11 million per year.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
With the contract issue behind him, Cook can now fully focus on the 2025 season. He's been on and off the field at training camp but still has over three weeks before the season opener against the Ravens. We're expecting him to be a full-go for that one.
Cook is a slightly safer redraft pick now, although he's still a bit overvalued at his mid-third-round, RB14 ADP. Cook finished 11th at his position in PPR points per game last year -- but just 27th in expected points per game. His per-touch efficiency is bound to regress. And we don't expect his role to grow, despite this new contract.
Dynasty Impact
The extension is good news for Cook's dynasty value. It doesn't look like he'll ever be a workhorse in Buffalo, but Cook isn't really cut out for workhorse duty.
He at least remains tied to an elite QB and an offense that's ranked top six in points in five straight seasons.
Other Winners & Losers
RB Ray Davis takes a slight hit with this news. Cook's contract situation had added another upside path for Davis, but that's gone now.
He remains an elite handcuff, though, with an outside chance at standalone fantasy value in a run-leaning Buffalo offense. Last year's Bills produced the fourth-most total RB PPR points.
