Buccaneers S Antoine Winfield Jr. missed practice Wednesday with what HC Todd Bowles called a "lower leg issue," according to Scott Smith of the team website.
What They're Saying
Smith: "No specificity on if Winfield would miss more time."
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport: "Sounds like it's all eyes on Week 1 for Antoine Winfield. Doesn't sound like anything that'll keep him off the field for the opener."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Rapoport added that while re-posting Smith's item. So I can't say for sure whether he's providing additional info or just doing his thing of trying to sound like he has something to say even when he doesn't.
Either way, the situation bears watching for a key member of the Tampa Bay defense and a high-level IDP option among DBs.
Winfield lost four games to an ankle sprain early last season, and then another four games to a December knee sprain. It's obviously not yet clear whether this summer's issue affects either of those particular areas.
I'm not adjusting expectations for Winfield down yet, especially because it's easy to find injury replacements at his position in fantasy. But I'll be watching his situation.
If Winfield were to miss regular-season time, Christian Izien and Kaevon Merriweather would likely compete for fill-in duties. Both saw such time for last year's Bucs.
