Eagles Grab Another WR to Not Target

The Texans are trading WR John Metchie III to the Eagles, according to multiple reports. They're sending Metchie and a sixth-round pick for TE Harrison Bryant and a fifth-rounder. The teams originally swapped those same picks in the trade that sent S C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Texans this offseason. Houston drafted Metchie 44th overall (second round) in 2022. After losing his first season to leukemia treatment, Metchie averaged just 1.4 receptions per game over the past two years. The Texans acquired WR Christian Kirk this offseason and then drafted WRs Jayden Higgins (Round 2) and Jaylin Noel (Round 3).

        What They're Saying

Jordan Schultz: "They have been actively open to trading John Metchie for over a week. ... Howie Roseman did something similar almost a year to the day, when he traded for Jahan Dotson."

It's OK if you forgot about that Dotson trade. He managed just a 19-216-0 receiving line across 17 appearances with last year's Eagles, despite A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and TE Dallas Goedert all missing multiple games.

Metchie could battle Dotson, Johnny Wilson, Ainias Smith, and Terrace Marshall for depth-chart positioning -- and perhaps even a roster spot -- but he's highly unlikely to find fantasy relevance in one of the league's most run-heavy offenses.

Metchie's in the final year of his rookie contract and will hit unrestricted free agency ahead of his age-26 season.

Bryant's 27 and also headed for free agency after this season. He'll have to fight to win a roster spot in Houston, which already sports Dalton Schultz, Cade Stover, Irv Smith, and rookie Luke Lachey at the position.

Bryant initially takes the spot vacated by Brevin Jordan's recent ACL tear.

        Dynasty Impact

Metchie couldn't break through in Houston, so getting a new start can't be a bad thing. He'll still need a more positive situation change for 2026 if he's to matter for fantasy teams at any point.

Bryant couldn't find fantasy relevance in Cleveland or Las Vegas, and now he apparently couldn't push Grant Calcaterra for the No. 2 TE job in Philly.
