De’Von Achane’s Calf Injury Not Serious, But He’ll Miss Practice Time

Dolphins’ RB De’Von Achane is dealing with a calf injury that will likely keep him out of practice this week, according to Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.

        What They're Saying

Louis-Jacques: “Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Dolphins RB De’Von Achane is dealing with a calf injury and likely will not practice this week. McDaniel said this is ‘preventative in nature’ especially because of how explosive of an athlete Achane is.”

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Over the weekend, it was reported that Achane was dealing with a “lower body soft tissue injury” that was not considered serious.

        Now we have more clarity.

It is a calf injury for Achane and although he’s unlikely to practice this week, it does sound like Miami is simply taking a cautious approach with their star RB. Reading coach speak, especially when it comes to injuries, is always a dangerous game. However, based on McDaniel’s update, it sounds like the injury truly isn’t too severe, and that Achane will be ready to roll Week 1 against the Colts.

If you are drafting this week, it is certainly reasonable to use this injury as a potential tiebreaker when considering Achane against similarly ranked players. In the back half of Round 1, WR Nico Collins or RBs Derrick Henry and Ashton Jeanty may seem safer than Achane now. But the upside is still through the roof with Achane, who averaged 46.1 receiving yards, 6.1 receptions, 6.6 targets and 22.4 PPR points per game in 11 contests alongside QB Tua Tagovailoa last season. With the Dolphins facing two-high coverage at the highest rate in the NFL, plenty of check downs should continue to go Achane’s way, especially with TE Jonnu Smith gone.

In Achane’s absence, Jaylen Wright and rookie Ollie Gordon will continue to split work. Gordon has vastly outperformed Wright this preseason, though both make sense as late-round selections if you already drafted Achane.

Despite the injury, Achane hasn’t moved in our rankings. He remains the 12th overall player.
