Dolphins RB Jaylen Wright is "week to week," HC Mike McDaniel said Saturday. The second-year back is believed to be dealing with a leg injury suffered on Thursday. According to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, McDaniel "added that the team is evaluating a few things procedurally" with Wright. That suggests the team might be considering placing him on short-term IR, which would free up a roster spot but knock Wright out for the first four games of the season.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
It's been a rough August for Wright, who was being out-played by rookie RB Ollie Gordon in the preseason before this injury. Gordon wrapped up the exhibition slate with 126 yards and a score on 26 carries (4.8 YPC), while Wright mustered just 19 yards on his his 13 totes (1.5 YPC). Gordon also crushed Wright in yards after contact per attempt (3.88 to 1.54) and missed tackles forced per attempt (0.15 to 0.08).
Wright has seemingly remained ahead of Gordon on the depth chart. But an early-season absence could give Gordon a chance to snatch the No. 2 job.
We'll look for further updates on Wright's status. But, at this point, Gordon looks like the more intriguing early-season bench stash.
