John Shipley of Sports Illustrated believes the Jaguars will look to move either RB Travis Etienne or Tank Bigsby.
What They're Saying
Shipley: “I believe the Jaguars will look to unload one of their veteran backs. If they can’t, I think they carry these four and make one of the two rookies inactive on game day.”
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
The “four” Shipley is referencing are: Travis Etienne, Tank Bigsby, Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen.
But Shipley does believe that either Etienne or Bigsby will be playing elsewhere in 2025 – a move that makes this backfield a lot easier to project for fantasy purposes. So far, preseason usage has only muddied the waters.
In Week 1, Etienne was the lead RB, playing every snap with QB Trevor Lawrence and the first-team offense. But during the second exhibition game, it was Bigsby who drew the start, ultimately splitting work with Etienne, who played more on third down. This is likely the split we’ll see during the season if both Etienne and Bigsby remain in Jacksonville.
Last season, Etienne posted career-lows in:
- Snap share: 54%
- 3rd down snap share: 46.5%
- Red zone snap share: 39.7%
- Touches per game: 12.6
It sure seems like new HC Liam Coen will use both RBs, potentially in a similar way Tampa Bay utilized Bucky Irving and Rachaad White early on last season. But if one RB is traded, the other RB gets a massive boost, while the rookies also become a lot more interesting.
At the moment, Etienne checks in as the RB30 in our rankings, with Bigsby just inside the top-40. But in half PPR, the gap is much closer.
