The Cowboys have placed rookie RB Phil Mafah on injured reserve, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Fowler: “The Cowboys will place rookie RB Phil Mafah (shoulder) on injured reserve, per sources. The plan is for him to return during the season. Mafah had 15 carries for 59 yards and one touchdown in the preseason.”
Javonte Williams is entrenched as the lead RB in Dallas, but the RB2 job is still up for grabs. Mafah’s absence – at least the first four games – paves the way for Miles Sanders or Jaydon Blue to earn that role. Blue is dealing with a low ankle sprain, though the rookie could still be ready for Week 1.
