The Browns are signing RB Quinshon Judkins to a fully guaranteed contract ahead of Sunday's game, according to multiple reports. The second-round pick, of course, spent most of the summer navigating domestic assault accusations that ultimately did not produce criminal charges.
What They're Saying
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport: "Judkins legal situation is behind him after no charges were filed, though the NFL is still conducting its investigation."
More from the Rapper: "Judkins is not expected to play this week for the Browns. But depending on practice, could play the following week."
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero: "The Browns are expected to get a temporary roster exemption for RB Quinshon Judkins. That's unrelated to the league's ongoing disciplinary process; it's standard for players who missed camp and can last up to two games."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
The Browns drafted Judkins 36th overall, the fourth pick of the second round, and GM Andrew Berry immediately called him a "versatile bellcow." They clearly envisioned the young guy taking over the post-Nick Chubb backfield.
The lost summer obviously changes that, and we'll have to see just how close Judkins can get to retrieving it.
The rookie must prove he's physically ready for NFL action. He has to learn the offense. And he needs show situational upside over Jerome Ford and Dylan Sampson.
We and the Browns certainly believe Judkins to be the backfield's best player. But it'll take a little more to show he's ready for three-down usage than if he'd been able to compete for touches throughout camp.
Potential NFL discipline still lingers. But it's tough to expect a suspension to come this season, based on how long that process generally takes. Just look at Rashee Rice and Jordan Addison opening this year with suspensions stemming from infractions that occurred last offseason.
If you drafted Judkins, this is a great day. If Judkins went undrafted in your league, pounce on him. And if you rostered Ford or Sampson, hold through at least the first two games as Cleveland sorts the now-completed backfield.
Trade Value Changes
Ford and Sampson are obvious longer-term losers for Judkins' return. But they're also still on track for significant Week 1 roles (at least). And Judkins' extended absence boosts their full-season upside vs. if Judkins had gotten a full camp.
If we get good numbers from either guy in the opener, try to shop that player to the Judkins manager in your league ahead of Week 2.
Waiver Wire Targets
And if the Ford or Sampson drafter in your league drops either guy ahead of the opener on this Judkins news, see if you have space to stash him.
