The Cleveland Browns used a pair of 2025 NFL Draft picks to reinforce their backfield. One day after getting the first of those picks, Quinshon Judkins signed, fourth-rounder Dylan Sampson had a strong NFL debut. Sampson led the Browns with 29 rushing yards (2.4 YPC) and was tied for second on the team with 8 targets. Sampson reeled in all 8 of those looks for 64 yards, totaling 93 scrimmage yards in Cleveland's 17-16 home loss to the Bengals.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Jerome Ford drew the start and actually out-snapped Sampson, but it was the rookie who was far more effective as both a runner and receiver.
Ford played 41 snaps (52%) but accrued just 8 yards on his 6 carries. Even more concerning, Ford only drew one target, catching it for a 3-yard loss.
Sampson played 33 snaps (45%) but had twice as many carries (12) and was far more effective in the passing game. Sampson's 16 routes resulted in 8 grabs for 64 yards.
Meanwhile, third-string RB Raheim Sanders acted as the short-yardage specialist, carrying the ball 3 times for 3 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown plunge on 3 snaps.
The pending arrival of second-round rookie Quinshon Judkins will shake up the pecking order, but Sampson played well enough to maintain a role. The bigger impact will happen to Ford, who won't take carries away from Judkins and was out-played in the passing game by Sampson.
