Panthers QB Bryce Young threw for just 154 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs in Sunday's season-opening loss to the Jaguars. He managed just 18 completions among 35 attempts but did add 40 rushing yards on five attempts. Young supplied only 47 passing yards in the first half of a game his team trailed 20-3 at halftime before losing 26-10.
What They're Saying
SI.com Panthers writer Zach Roberts: "His pass-catchers didn't help (as usual), but he also didn't help himself. The interception was ill-advised and a bad decision. ... There were two throws that probably should've resulted in touchdowns, and they didn't. He also had a pick on a play, trying to avoid a sack, that was called back."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
These Panthers were missing WR Adam Thielen (traded to Minnesota) and WR Jalen Coker (on short-term IR) vs. last year's squad. But that's not nearly enough to explain away this performance.
Jacksonville ranked among the league's worst defenses last season, finishing as the friendliest to QBs by our adjusted fantasy points allowed.
This year's version is probably better. (Nowhere to go but up, right?) But the Jags defensed nine of Young's passes Sunday. That's halfway to his completion total for the game.
Young's 49.0 passer rating for Sunday's game fell between the 32.8 and 57.2 he posted in last year's first two games. Carolina benched him in Week 3.
There's obviously time for Young to rebound. But he shouldn't be in fantasy lineups (if you can help it) until he proves he belongs there.
Week 2 holds a visit to Arizona, with a home date against Atlanta the week after.
