Steelers RB Kaleb Johnson was a non-factor in Week 1, logging just two snaps with one route, one carry, and -2 yards. Kenneth Gainwell surprisingly led the backfield with 29 snaps, while starter Jaylen Warren was close with 25 and led the team with 11 carries. The usage shows Johnson has ground to make up to catch Gainwell on the depth chart.

Gainwell’s workload exceeded expectations. He ran 16 routes, the most among Steelers RBs, and drew four targets, catching three for four yards. His seven carries for 19 yards weren’t impressive, but Johnson was ignored entirely.
Johnson is worth stashing, but if this usage continues for a few weeks, he could be droppable. In shallow leagues, don’t hesitate to move on.
Warren ran for 37 yards on 11 carries, caught both of his targets for 22 yards, and scored the Steelers’ lone RB TD. The team’s 37% run rate was unusually low for OC Arthur Smith, but game script against the Jets forced more passing. Warren should see more work going forward.
Next week brings a potential breakout opportunity against the Seahawks, who just allowed 141 total yards to Christian McCaffrey. It could be a spot where Warren has another solid performance.
