DeShon Elliott Looks Likely to Miss a Few Games

The Steelers are set to announced the signing of S Jabrill Peppers, according to multiple reports. That comes two days after S DeShon Elliott left the win over the Jets with a knee injury. And there are mixed early signals out Elliott's outlook.

        What They're Saying

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport: "Steelers S DeShon Elliott is considered day-to-day with a knee injury."

ESPN's Brooke Pryor, on the Peppers news: "We'll hear from Mike Tomlin at noon, but I can't imagine this bodes well for S DeShon Elliott, who left Sunday's game with a knee injury."

Independent reporter Jordan Schultz: "Elliott is expected to miss a couple of weeks with an MCL sprain. All things considered, it's not viewed as a serious injury. The goal is to be back for Week 4 vs. the Vikings in Ireland."

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Rapoport's take appears to be the weakest here. The Pryor and Schultz bits match up better with the team importing Peppers.

Pittsburgh ran Juan Thornhill as the other "starter" at safety in Sunday's win over the Jets. I put that in quotes because Thornhill didn't actually open the game on the field but played 84% of the snaps and made his first tackle on the second offensive play.

Chuck Clark entered the game after Elliott went down and stayed in the rest of the way.

Thornhill and Clark seem likely to lead the Elliott-less safety spots, with Peppers as insurance. But we'll see what the team says. None stands as a strong IDP option, especially against a Seattle offense (in Week 2) that would like to lean run.

        Other Winners & Losers

The Saints likely lost one of their starting safeties for the season, so it's interesting to see Peppers land in Pittsburgh without getting a look there (as far as I can tell).

We'll see whether that says something about Pittsburgh's promised opportunity ... or Peppers' standing around the league.

New England dumped the former starter in the final round of cuts ahead of the regular season.
