Commanders QB Jayden Daniels sprained his right knee in Thursday night's loss at Green Bay, according to multiple reports. The injury's not expected to cost him much time -- if any -- but it does put his availability in question for Sunday's home date with the Raiders.
What They're Saying
Former NFL doc David Chao: "MRIs are given out like candy at Halloween. I don't think there's structural damage. ... I think he's more hurt than injured. I would be very surprised if he misses time or doesn't play. Is he as agile as normal? Maybe he's a half-step slower based on soreness and swelling."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
If you have Daniels on your fantasy roster, then you're obviously hoping Chao is correct (which generally seems to be the case). But you also can't head toward Week 3 without insurance.
Washington would turn to Marcus Mariota if Daniels can't go.
Mariota got two games of near-starter level duty for the Commanders last year and topped 20 fantasy points in each of them (depending on your scoring format). He completed 77.3% of his passes in limited action last year, tossed 2 TD passes against both the Panthers and Cowboys, and ran for 90 yards and a TD across his two weeks of significant work.
Mariota would certainly carry upside into the Week 3 matchup with the Raiders, though he might not be the comfiest play in 1-QB leagues.
