First-round RB Omarion Hampton was held to just 24 rushing yards on 8 carries and was benched after a fourth-quarter fumbled exchange in the Chargers' 20-9 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The fumble was later given to QB Justin Herbert.
It's been a disappointing start for Hampton. Fantasy managers envisioned him leading a run-heavy Chargers' offense, but Hampton was out-played in Week 2 by Najee Harris.
Hampton out-snapped Harris 36-20, but Harris had 10 touches to Hampton's 9. Harris closed out the game after the fumbled exchange, and ended up being slightly more effective (3.5 yards per tote) on the ground.
The Chargers have been far more reliant on the pass than anticipated, which has led to fewer opportunities for Hampton to showcase his talents.
A Week 3 matchup against Denver won't quell those concerns. However, the Broncos have allowed 306 scrimmage yards and 3 TDs to opposing RBs through 2 games.
