Bears QB Caleb Williams clearly benefited from a positive Week 3 matchup with the Cowboys. He threw for 298 yards and a career-high-tying 4 TDs. That more than doubled his TD total for this season and marked the third time in 20 NFL games that Williams has tossed more than two scoring passes. He spread the TDs around, hitting WRs D.J. Moore, Luther Burden, and Rome Odunze, as well as TE Cole Kmet.
What They're Saying
HC Ben Johnson on his QB: "I thought [Williams] was really good. And the thing that you don't see on the stat sheet is he's getting a lot more comfortable calling those plays in the huddle. We're able to get out of the huddle a little bit faster, and we're able to get on the line and operate a little bit cleaner as well."
Williams on his coach afterward: "How strong of a coach he is, how mentally tough that he is, it feeds into all of us. ... The train is going. It's starting. We've just got to keep going and be consistent and stay on the rails."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Let's step back to a sec and recognize how good the matchup was.
Dallas now sits dead last in both total defensive DVOA and pass DVOA. And the specific ratings display wide margins. Check out the bottom 6, in reverse order:
- Dallas -- 66.6%
- Miami -- 60.9%
- N.Y. Jets -- 54.4%
- New England -- 47.5%
- New Orleans -- 42.6%
- Pittsburgh -- 28.2%
The next three teams sit closer to Pittsburgh in pass DVOA rating than Dallas does to No. 31 Miami.
The Cowboys -- in case you forgot -- preceded the Chicago date by allowing 506 yards and 37 points to the Giants. Russell Wilson threw for 450 yards and 3 TDs.
That's not a knock on Williams' Week 3 performance. He should be able to take advantage of such matchups. We just need to keep the particulars in mind as we project him forward.
We also need to keep in mind that Williams has now topped 20 fantasy points (by our default scoring, at least) in each of the first three games this season. He did so six times in 17 starts as a rookie.
And we should expect the coach, the QB, and plenty of young pass catchers to get comfier together as the season wears on.
Expect Williams to sit comfortably inside the top 12 of our QB rankings for a Week 4 visit to the Raiders.
After a Week 5 bye come positive matchups with Washington and New Orleans.
