Lions RB David Montgomery managed just 12 yards on nine carries in Sunday's win over the Browns. He trailed Jahmyr Gibbs in carries (15-9), playing time (37 snaps to 20), and pass routes (16-7). Montgomery drew just one target, which fell incomplete. Gibbs posted a 15-91-1 rushing line (6.1 yards per carry) and 2 receptions for 6 yards.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Cleveland entered the game allowing just 2.3 yards per carry, despite facing Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs the previous two games.
Montgomery's performance looks especially notable, though, because it follows a 12-151-2 blowup on the ground in a win over the Ravens.
Fortunately for him, that's probably the best run defense the Lions will face all year. Better news: Week 5 holds a visit to Cincinnati, a much friendlier rushing matchup.
Take note, though, that Montgomery's team sits 3-1 after four games, and yet he hasn't carried more than 12 times in a game. Montgomery's 11.3 rushes per contest would be the lowest mark of his career, nearly 2.0 short of of last year's average.
That's also 3.0 carries per game behind Gibbs' average. That doubles Gibbs' lead from last season. And Gibbs' 13.7 carries per game over 13 shared contests last year narrowly trailed Montgomery's 13.8.
Consider looking for sell opportunities on Montgomery, potentially after the Week 5 Bengals matchup if he delivers a strong fantasy line.
