Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell said Tuesday that Edge Andrew Van Ginkel won't practice this week because of his neck injury, according to the team website. That sure seems to indicate Van Ginkel won't play Sunday against the Browns. Minnesota gets a Week 6 bye, so we'll see about his status after that.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Second-year edge Dallas Turner played every snap of the loss to the Steelers in Van Ginkel's absence. Turner hasn't done much stat-wise with the opportunity, totaling 1 sack and 2 QB hits over the past three games.
To be fair, he has seen limited pass-rush opportunities. Turner's season high for total pass rushes came back in Week 1 (17), when he played just 29 total snaps and entered as a situational rusher.
As a full-time player two of the past two weeks -- and 61% in between -- he has seen run-heavy approaches from the Falcons and Steelers and assumed Van Ginkel's coverage drops. That has meant just 14, 13, and 16 total pass rushes those three games, according to Pro Football Focus.
Turner has generated 9 pressures among those 43 chances, a pretty good 21% rate.
He'll carry some upside in a Week 5 matchup with the Browns, who are expected to start rookie QB Dillon Gabriel for the first time.
Turner's still a stretch as an IDP starter for most leagues.
Dynasty Impact
This is a nice little showcase stretch for Turner, who arrived as a first-round pick just last year and turned 22 in February.
He seems likely to still have to share time with Van Ginkel and Jonathan Greenard next season, based on the veterans' contracts. But Turner's huge snap shares seem to bode well for his standing going forward.
The former Alabama star could be a sneaky dynasty add this season before his numbers (potentially) climb.
