49ers QB Mac Jones completed 33 of 49 passes (67%) for 342 yards (7.0 YPA), two TDs, and 0 INTs in Thursday night's overtime win over the Rams. More impressive: He did it without Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings, Brandon Aiyuk, or George Kittle. Jones fed RB Christian McCaffrey eight times for 82 yards and a score. But he also hooked up with WR Kendrick Bourne for 10 completions and 142 yards. Jones' other TD went to TE Jake Tonges, who finished with seven grabs for 41 yards. Jones' timing and ball placement were on point all night. And he stood tall in the pocket amidst countless big hits from a strong Rams pass rush. It was an impressive showing.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Jones has played well in all three starts in place of QB Brock Purdy this season. He's completed 66.7% of his passes at 7.0 yards per attempt, averaging 302 yards and 2.0 TDs per game. Jones finished QB6 and QB15 in fantasy points in his first two starts and will very likely be a top-10 QB in Week 5.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said before Thursday night's game that Purdy could miss more games after aggravating his toe injury in Week 4. Jones feels like the favorite to at least start in Week 6 against the Buccaneers, who currently rank 29th in adjusted fantasy points allowed to QBs.
There's also a good chance the 49ers gets Kittle, Pearsall, and Jennings back next week, according to Rapoport. Add it all up and Jones is looking like a potential top-12 QB play for Week 6. He's well worth an add if you don't have a locked-in starter at the position.
