Panthers RB Rico Dowdle ran all over the Cowboys in Sunday’s 30-27 win. He racked up 183 rushing yards on a career-high 30 attempts, along with 4 catches and 1 TD on a career-high 56 receiving yards.
What They're Saying
Dowdle said before the game that his former team better "buckle up." After the win -- and the All-Pro-like performance -- he said "they wasn't buckled up." Awesome.
"There's a lot that went on in those five years while I was there," Dowdle added via USA Today. "But I'd definitely say it was a little personal. Just wanted to get the win and have a great performance on my end."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
As his raw numbers suggest, Dowdle was a true workhorse. He handled 86% of the carries and 88% of the snaps. Surprisingly, he tied for the team high in target share while leading the group in receiving.
Dowdle’s score came on a well-designed play off play-action. Dowdle’s route carried him deep downfield, where he was met with little resistance. He caught the downfield ball for an easy 36-yard TD.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dowdle is only the sixth RB in the Super Bowl era with 225+ scrimmage yards and a score in back-to-back games. The other names: Dalvin Cook, Le’Veon Bell, Deuce McAillister, Marshall Faulk, and Walker Payton. Elite company.
We’ll see how this backfield looks when Chuba Hubbard returns – perhaps as soon as Week 7 against the Jets. Regardless, Dowdle’s positioned himself for a season-long role.
