Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase dominated the Steelers on Thursday night, hauling in 16 of 23 targets for 161 yards and a score. The 16 catches set a new Bengals single-game record. The 23 targets were a career-high for Chase. This one was baffling from the Steelers side. The defense consistently left Chase singled up in man coverage, leading to easy completions on slants, crossers, and outs. Chase is awesome -- but it was simply too easy in this one. His TD came on one of his more difficult grabs of the night on a fade to the back left corner of the end zone. That came just one play after he failed to corral a pass in the paint. Chase also drew 14 and four-yard pass interference penalties on an overmatched Steelers secondary.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
This Joe Flacco thing is working out pretty nicely for Chase. He's posted 10-94-1 and 16-161-1 receiving lines in Flacco's two starts. He's drawn a ridiculous 35 targets on a 38% share across those two games. And he's caught 74.3% of those targets.
Chase has averaged just 9.8 yards per catch on a short 7.6-yard average target depth from Flacco. The big-play potential isn't as high as it is with QB Joe Burrow.
But fantasy owners can't complain. Flacco has proven willing and able to force feed Chase targets and receptions.
He's back to being a locked-in top-five WR with the potential to lead the position in fantasy points the rest of the way. Chase will be further boosted by a schedule that ranks third-easiest for WRs from Week 8-17.
Other Winners & Losers
WR Tee Higgins has been similarly resuscitated by Flacco. He hauled in six of 10 targets for 96 yards and a score in the Week 7 win over the Steelers. That followed a decent 5-62-0 line in Week 6.
Higgins has totaled 18 targets on a 19.6% share from Flacco over the last two weeks. We'd like to see that share climb a bit. But if the Bengals remain pass-heavy and relatively efficient with Flacco, Higgins should have no trouble producing as at least a WR3 going forward.
