The Cincinnati Bengals have been moving WR Tee Higgins into the slot more this offseason, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Fowler: “And make no mistake, Higgins believes that he can put up his biggest numbers yet, as the Bengals have experimented with him playing inside more often.”
Higgins, via Fowler: That’s what they’re trying to get out of me, put me in different places and different spots on the field,” Higgins said. “Sometimes I’m in the slot, running routes I haven’t run.”
Higgins is already a top-tier fantasy WR, but we won’t complain about him seeing more slot usage in 2025. Fowler also mentions that Higgins sees himself as a mismatch on the inside, particularly against smaller defensive backs.
Primarily a perimeter pass-catcher, Higgins has operated from the slot just 17.5% and 19% of the time over the past two seasons. That number could realistically double this year, presenting Higgins with more advantageous matchups over the middle of the field – and potentially boosting his production after the catch. This past season, Higgins averaged just 3.1 YAC/reception, which ranked 67th among qualified WRs.
Higgins isn’t suddenly going to go from a downfield, perimeter option to a low-aDOT slot WR. But perhaps more schemed targets from the slot can help raise his floor a bit. He checks in as the WR11 in our rankings.
