Brian Robinson Jr. Traded To San Francisco

After plenty of trade speculation, the Washington Commanders have traded RB Brian Robinson Jr. to the San Francisco 49ers, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Washington wasn’t shy about their intentions of moving on from Robinson. And less than a week later, he’s gone.

The Commanders received a sixth-round pick in 2026 in exchange for the fourth-year RB, who will now compete for back up duties behind RB Christian McCaffrey. It certainly isn’t the most enticing landing spot for Robinson to return any standalone value, especially considering how good McCaffrey has looked this summer.

But the contingent upside? That’s worth a look.

McCaffrey is no stranger to injury, having missed 14 games over the past two seasons. And we’ve seen the value of being the backup RB in San Francisco. Just last season, RB Jordan Mason filled in for McCaffrey Weeks 1-8 and thrived.

        During that stretch, Mason ranked:

        -3rd in rushing yards (685)

        -4th in YAC/ATT (3.4)

-15th in touches per game (18.0)

Later on in the season, RB Isaac Guerendo took over as the starter and also found success. In four games with at least 50% of the snaps, Guerendo averaged 16.8 touches, 101 scrimmage yards and 17.8 PPR points per game. Robinson’s fit in San Francisco’s outside zone scheme is debatable, so we wouldn’t give up on Guerendo just yet.

        Other Winners & Losers

With Robinson officially gone, the Jacory Croskey-Merritt hype train won't slow down anytime soon.

Still, Washington will likely deploy a committee. Chris Rodriguez will play a role, especially at the goal line, while Austin Ekeler shouldn’t be overlooked either. In games where he saw at least 10 touches last year, Ekeler averaged 13.3 PPR points per game.

Ekeler, Rodriguez and Croskey-Merritt are all certainly on the rise.
