Making his first NFL start in relief of D'Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai had a banner day, piling up 198 yards of offense and dominating Chicago's backfield in the Bears' 47-42 victory over the Bengals. The seventh-round rookie carried 26 times for 176 yards (6.2 yards per carry) and produced 106 yards after contact.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
On Sunday, Monangai made the most of his first start. He was in on 74% of Chicago's snaps, had 26 carries, and also ran 26 routes. He caught 3-of-5 targets for 22 yards. In total, he turned his 29 touches into 198 scrimmage yards and 22.8 PPR points.
Monangai's 176 rushing yards were the most by a Bears' RB since Matt Forte ran for 205 yards in Week 4 of the 2011 season.
Pass protection woes, which are common for rookie RBs, limited Monangai to a 28% snap share and 26 total touches in Chicago's first 6 games. But starting in Week 7, Monangai began to see a boost in opportunities.
• Week 7 46% snaps, 15 touches, 94 yards
• Week 8 45% snaps, 7 touches, 24 yards
• Week 9 74% snaps, 29 touches, 198 yards
Monangai headlined our Week 8 waiver wire column. He paid huge dividends in Week 9, delivering top-5 fantasy numbers. After his huge showing, it feels like only a matter of time before Monangai takes over as Chicago's main runner.
Before Week 9, Monangai had already forced more missed tackles (12) than Swift (11) despite receiving 58 fewer attempts. Monangai also created more yards after contact, and that was before the 106 yards after contact he piled up in Cincinnati.
When Swift returns, he will likely see a decrease in rushing attempts. Swift also has Chicago's highest receiving grade per PFF, so he'll stay involved on third downs and in 2-minute situations.
Monangai's monster day makes him a high-upside starter with RB1 potential if Swift remains sidelined next week as the Bears host a Giants defense that is a bottom-10 unit against RBs.
