If you hoped the season-ending injury for RB Kendre Miller would rebound Alvin Kamara's touch counts ... then you've been wildly disappointed in the weeks since. Kamara logged his second straight six carries in Sunday's lopsided loss to the Rams. It was New Orleans' third consecutive loss by double digits and the second straight by 20+ points. That would seem like good conditions for Kamara's target volume, at least. But the veteran has seen three targets or fewer in three straight games and totaled 6 catches for 28 yards over that span.
What They're Saying
Bob Rose of Saints Wire: "Kamara is being underused and misused by Kellen Moore, if we're being honest. ... For his part, however, Kamara has made next to zero impact for an offense that desperately needs something from him."
Rose pointed out that Kamara dropped one "low but catchable ball that would have resulted in a first down" and lost a key fumble against the Rams.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
The fumble ended New Orleans' final possession of the third quarter, and it would be Kamara's last touch of the game. The resulting Rams TD drive set the game's score at its 34-10 final early in the fourth quarter.
That circumstance makes it tough to gauge whether Kamara got benched as punishment, because the game was basically over, or some combo of factors.
HC Kellen Moore refused to expound on the reason for Kamara's lack of playing time after that, according to Saints beat writer Ross Jackson. But Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed played after that, so New Orleans clearly wasn't just removing starters at that point.
Even in the first half, Kamara carried just four times vs. two carries for rookie RB Devin Neal and two for fantasy-nightmare Taysom Hill. Kamara also got all three of his targets before the break.
All told, Kamara doesn't belong inside the weekly top 24 at RB for at least the near future. We'll see whether anything changes with his usage or performance to alter that.
