Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes entered Week 9 with 29+ fantasy points in five straight. From Week 7 of 2024 to Week 8 of 2025, he accounted for at least one TD in every game. But both streaks ended Sunday against Buffalo, with Mahomes throwing for 250 scoreless yards and 1 INT. He added a brutal 44.1% completion rate, plus only 5 rushing yards.
What They're Saying
Here's Mahomes on the loss, via ESPN:
"We've had great moments and we've had bad moments," Mahomes admitted. "We've got to be more consistent as a team, I've got to be more consistent and we've been in a lot of these tight, close games in our history, but they're not going our way.
How can we deal with that adversity? You can only learn from so many losses. You've got to learn from it fast."
Kansas City hits their bye week at a surprising 5-4.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Pressure was the biggest factor in this one. Kansas City -- still without OT Josh Simmons -- struggled to keep Buffalo's pass rush under control. Mahomes faced pressure on a season-high 52.6% of his dropbacks, second-most on the Week 9 slate. He absorbed 20 pressures and took three sacks.
Fantasy managers were unlucky to see Kareem Hunt and Rashee Rice score short-range rushing TDs. Still, this was a massively disappointing game for Mahomes. On the week, he tallied bottom-ten marks in completion rate over expected and EPA per drop back.
Rashee Rice chipped in with a team-high 80 yards. He tied for the team-lead in targets (7) and catches (4).
Travis Kelce wasn't targeted until late in the second quarter. He finished with 4 catches for 66 yards on 5 targets.
The Chiefs have a Week 10 bye, then travel for a tough road matchup at Denver.
