Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
After missing two games with a calf injury, Chuba Hubbard returned as Carolina's starting RB in the team's 13-6 win over the Jets. Hubbard and Rico Dowdle, who accounted for 473 scrimmage yards and 2 TDs while Hubbard was sidelined, rotated drives throughout the game. They combined to rush 31 times for 110 yards.
Panthers RBs Rico Dowdle and Chuba Hubbard are expected to "trade series" early in today's game vs. the Jets, "with the flexibility to change based on flow of the game," according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "Gives Panthers offense the chance to adjust and keep both players fresh," Fowler adds. It sounds like this could be a hot-hand situation, making it tough to project. Dowdle seems likelier to get the hot hand considering his barrage the past two games and is the better Week 7 fantasy bet. But consider him more of a low-end RB2 than the elite RB1 he's been the last two weeks. Hubbard is a RB3 or Flex consideration.
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (calf) will play against the Jets this weekend, HC Dave Canales said Friday. Hubbard practiced all week, including a full workout on Friday, so it seems like that calf issue is behind him. The question now is how work will be divvied between he and RB Rico Dowdle. Hubbard operated as the clear lead back over the first four games of the season, but Dowdle racked up a whopping 473 total yards with Hubbard out the last two weeks. It's tough to put that back in the bottle. We're tentatively expecting Dowdle to lead a committee attack vs. the Jets but will look for more updates on Carolina's plans.
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (calf) got in a limited practice on Wednesday -- his first since the Friday ahead of Week 4. Hubbard seemingly has a chance to return for Sunday's game vs. the Jets, but we'll see how that calf holds up over the next couple of days. HC Dave Canales hasn't revealed much about what this backfield will look like when both Hubbard and RB Rico Dowdle are healthy. We're certainly expecting Dowdle to have a significant role after racking up 473 total yards over the last two weeks.
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (calf) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Cowboys. He didn’t practice all week and could miss additional games. RB Rico Dowdle should be in a workhorse role again this weekend against Dallas’ 32nd-ranked RB defense.
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (calf) did not practice on Wednesday. We're not projecting him to play vs. the Cowboys this weekend, which would set up RB Rico Dowdle for another big workload against his former team. We'll let you know if Hubbard's outlook improves over the next few days.
Panthers HC Dave Canales did not commit to Chuba Hubbard as his lead back going forward when asked on Monday. RB Rico Dowdle ripped the Dolphins for 206 yards and 23 carries in Week 5 -- just 11 fewer rushing yards than Hubbard totaled over the first four games of the season.
The Panthers are expected to deactivate RB Chuba Hubbard for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Hubbard has missed practice this week after aggravating a calf injury he tried to play through in the loss to the Patriots. Rico Dowdle's the next man up.
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (calf) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice. HC Dave Canales said yesterday that Hubbard came out of last week's game worse than he was going in. He seems to be in legit danger of missing this weekend's game vs. the Dolphins, which would leave Rico Dowdle as Carolina's lead back. We'll update Hubbard's status again tomorrow.
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (calf) did not practice on Wednesday. He played through this calf issue vs. the Patriots this past Sunday, but HC Dave Canales said Hubbard didn't come out of that game in a better spot than last week. Canales added that Hubbard needs treatment and rest and is considered "day to day." It sounds like his status for this weekend's game vs. the Dolphins is up in the air. We'll keep you updated on Hubbard, but RB Rico Dowdle should be rostered in virtually all fantasy leagues.
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (calf) is active for today’s game vs. the Patriots. He was added to the injury report on Thursday and limited in the final two practices of the week. But HC Dave Canales said the team was just managing some soreness in Hubbard’s calf. He seems relatively safe to keep in Week 4 fantasy lineups.
ESPN's David Newton expects Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (calf) to play vs. the Patriots tomorrow. Hubbard was added to the injury report on Thursday but was able to get in a limited practice on Friday. We'll look for further reports on his status for this one, but the calf issue lowers Hubbard's floor projection. See where he lands in the Week 4 RB rankings.
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard (calf) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Patriots. He was added to the injury report and limited in practice on Thursday -- and was limited again on Friday. We’ll look for further updates on Hubbard’s status and get Carolina’s inactives around 11:30 am ET on Sunday. Hubbard’s absence would leave Rico Dowdle as lead back, with rookie Trevor Etienne the No. 2.
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard was added to Thursday's injury report and limited in practice with a calf. That likely means he injured the calf in practice today, although we don't have confirmation. We'll look for further updates on Hubbard and see how he's listed on Friday's final injury report. His absence vs. the Patriots this weekend would leave Rico Dowdle as Carolina's lead back, with rookie Trevor Etienne as the No. 2.
The Panthers are losing a pair of starting offensive linemen to extended injuries. RG Robert Hunt suffered a torn biceps in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. He'll have surgery and head to IR, according to ESPN's David Newton. That almost certainly will end Hunt's season. C Austin Corbett tore the MCL in his left knee. Newton reports that Corbett will also head to IR but could be designated to return.
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard wound up with a nice Week 1 fantasy line, ranking seventh among PPR scorers at the position with Monday night's game yet to go. But his 27-yard catch-and-run TD late in the fourth quarter did the heavy lifting, accounting for 54.2% of his fantasy points. Otherwise, Hubbard managed just 57 rushing yards on 16 carries (3.6 per rush) and 2 catches for 5 yards.
