With WR Michael Pittman on IR and WR Ben Skowronek suffering a calf injury yesterday, the Steelers were down to Brandon Smith as their No. 3 WR. We should see targets condense around WRs D.K. Metcalf and Germie Bernard, TEs Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington, and RB Jaylen Warren in the short term.

Steelers WR Germie Bernard caught 6 of 9 targets for 80 yards in Sunday’s 34-22 win over the Colts. His longest catch went for 25 yards, and he added 4 yards on a carry. That added up to 14.4 PPR points. Bernard led Pittsburgh in targets and became the every-down receiver with Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve. Over the first three drives, he and DK Metcalf each played 19 of 20 snaps.

Steelers WR Michael Pittman is expected to miss multiple weeks after aggravating his foot injury, HC Mike McCarthy said Thursday. Pittman has totaled just 7 catches for 89 yards across his three games this season and can be dropped from redraft rosters. His absence should mean a boost in playing time for rookie WR Germie Bernard, who registered an 86% route rate and 8 targets when Pittman missed Week 2. Bernard is a fine stash in deeper leagues, but we wouldn't trust him in Week 5 fantasy lineups. WRs D.K. Metcalf and Roman Wilson and TEs Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington could also see more targets with Pittman out.

The Steelers on Saturday downgraded WR Michael Pittman Jr. to out because of his foot injury. That leaves Pittsburgh without the guy who ran the second-most routes on the team in Week 1 and led squad with 58 receiving yards.

The Steelers rested starters for their final preseason game Friday night, and that group included third-year WR Roman Wilson. Rookie Germie Bernard, meanwhile, joined WRs Brandon Smith and Max Hurleman in the starting lineup, alongside QB Will Howard.

Steelers WR Michael Pittman is dealing with a "minor" hamstring injury, according to Penn Live's Nick Farabaugh. Pittman has been out for a week and a half but expects to be ready for Week 1, per Farabaugh.

After getting drafted in the second round as the eighth wide receiver off the board, Germie Bernard caught four passes for 51 yards in his preseason debut. His performance included a 25-yard reception where he broke multiple tackles and had 22 yards after the catch.

The Steelers have agreed to a four-year extension with TE Darnell Washington worth $42 million, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, with $21 million of that guaranteed. Washington’s heading into his fourth season after arriving as a third-round pick in 2023. It’ll be his first under a new coaching staff, however, headed by Mike McCarthy. The extension puts Washington under contract with Pittsburgh through 2030, which would be his age-29 season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Alabama WR Germie Bernard in Round 2 (No. 47 overall) of the 2026 NFL Draft. Bernard spent a quiet freshman year at Michigan State, a better sophomore year at Washington, and then a stronger finish at Alabama. He led the team in receptions two straight years after following HC Kalen DeBoer from Washington. Bernard sports NFL size and alignment flexibility. He’s a polished route runner who gets in and out of breaks with precision, making him especially effective on slants and digs. Alabama also leaned into his versatility, giving him 18 carries for 101 yards and 2 TDs in 2025. He forced 17 missed tackles, underscoring his run-after-catch ability. Bernard’s skill set should make him a high-floor fantasy contributor, but does he have a ceiling worth chasing?
