There were relatively defined roles for all three backs. Pacheco played the majority of the early downs, Hunt handled most third downs and short-yardage situations, and Smith was used almost exclusively on called pass plays.

Pacheco suffered the injury in Week 2. He returned in Week 13 but averaged just 7.8 carries per game and 3.4 yards per rush from there through the playoffs. That included just 13 carries and 37 rushing yards (2.8 per carry) across three playoff contests.

The Chiefs are re-signing RB Kareem Hunt to a one-year deal. It has a base value of $1.5 million with another $1 million available in incentives, according to insider Jordan Schultz. It's a cheap contract for a 29-year-old who was forced into a significant role last season. Hunt joins Isiah Pacheco and Elijah Mitchell in Kansas City's backfield for now. The Chiefs are still a candidate to add to the depth chart in next month's draft.
