Wilson is still getting a second opinion on the injury. We'll let you know if his timeline changes, but Wilson is not a must-hold on redraft rosters. With WR Michael Pittman on IR and WR Ben Skowronek suffering a calf injury yesterday, the Steelers were down to Brandon Smith as their No. 3 WR. We should see targets condense around WRs D.K. Metcalf and Germie Bernard, TEs Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington, and RB Jaylen Warren in the short term.

Steelers WR Michael Pittman is expected to miss multiple weeks after aggravating his foot injury, HC Mike McCarthy said Thursday. Pittman has totaled just 7 catches for 89 yards across his three games this season and can be dropped from redraft rosters. His absence should mean a boost in playing time for rookie WR Germie Bernard, who registered an 86% route rate and 8 targets when Pittman missed Week 2. Bernard is a fine stash in deeper leagues, but we wouldn't trust him in Week 5 fantasy lineups. WRs D.K. Metcalf and Roman Wilson and TEs Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington could also see more targets with Pittman out.
Update: Pittman has been placed on IR, knocking him out at least through Pittsburgh's Week 9 bye.

The Steelers have agreed to a four-year extension with TE Darnell Washington worth $42 million, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, with $21 million of that guaranteed. Washington’s heading into his fourth season after arriving as a third-round pick in 2023. It’ll be his first under a new coaching staff, however, headed by Mike McCarthy. The extension puts Washington under contract with Pittsburgh through 2030, which would be his age-29 season.

Another Blocking TE: Riley Nowakowski Goes To the Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Indiana TE Riley Nowakowski in Round 5 of the NFL Draft. Nowakowski was an in-line blocker and safety valve for QB Fernando Mendoza this season at Indiana. Among the 27 TEs who attended the NFL Combine, Nowakowski ranked 15th in receiving yard market share (13.7%) and 11th in yards per team pass attempt (1.25). He also ranked ninth in yards per route run (1.68).
