Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is under investigation for allegedly hitting a photographer at a Dallas club early Monday, police sources tell WFAA. We don't have any other details at this point. This, of course, comes just about one month after Rice was involved in a street-racing accident in Dallas. He's facing eight charges for that incident.
Update: NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that the accuser has asked that charges be dropped and called the incident a "misunderstanding."
It's been a rough stretch for Rice, who still faces a potential suspension for the street-racing accident.
One less risk factor can only help. But you'll still need to decide how comfy you are with Rice at his depressed ADP.
While we're generally shying away from Rice in redraft right now, this could be a buying opportunity in dynasty. There's clearly some off-field risk here, but Rice is coming off an excellent rookie season. His 2.39 yards per route ranked 10th among 80 qualifying WRs and second to only Puka Nacua among rookies. Rice averaged 18.8 PPR points over his final six regular-season games.
Tied to Patrick Mahomes, Rice still boasts long-term WR1 fantasy upside.
A Rice suspension would make Marquise Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy the clear favorites for top two WR jobs and boost their target projections. They'd both be WR3s with upside in lineup-setting fantasy leagues out of the gate.
Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney, and Justin Watson would be battling for snaps behind Brown and Worthy if Rice is out. Those guys are still nothing more than late-round fliers at this point.
Rice's Underdog ADP has tumbled into WR4 range. If it sticks around there, he's certainly worth at least some best ball exposure.
A loaded supporting cast, improved QB play, and offensive continuity set the stage for Atlanta to deliver serious fantasy value in 2025.
