Rookie RB Jaydon Blue took reps with the Cowboys' first-team offense during Wednesday’s practice, according to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
The Cowboys’ backfield is one of the most polarizing in all of fantasy football. RBs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders are still firmly ahead of Blue on the depth chart, but seeing reps with the first-team offense isn’t insignificant for the rookie.
Williams underwhelmed last year, posting the second-worst yards over expected per carry (-0.6), while ranking 37th in yards per touch (4.5) and 33rd in yards after contact per attempt (1.8). Sanders, meanwhile, lost his job to RB Chuba Hubbard in Carolina, averaging just 3.5 yards per carry on 184 carries.
Blue presents a level of dynamic ability that Williams and Sanders lack. His 4.38 speed stands out, but so does his ability in the pass game. During his final season at Texas, he hauled in 42 passes and earned an 11.3% target share – borderline elite for a college RB.
Given his size (5’9, 196 lbs), it’s fair to question whether the Cowboys would give Blue a large workload. But this is a very fantasy relevant position the rookie is pushing for. From Week 9 on last year, RB Rico Dowdle averaged 19.9 touches per game, the ninth-most in football during that span. Consider Blue a high-upside late-round selection in fantasy drafts.
