Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer compared rookie RB Jaydon Blue to Darren Sproles. "He reminds me of the quickness and acceleration of Darren Sproles," Schottenheimer said. "And I don’t use that lightly. Darren was freaky with his quickness and acceleration and speed, and I think Jaydon has some of those traits, in terms of he’s electric when he gets the ball.
What They're Saying
More from Schottenheimer on Blue: "The quickness and the ability to accelerate in the hole… it’s just different. He’s got incredible lateral agility and quickness. And when he jump cuts or moves laterally, he’s able to get to top speed in a hurry, and he doesn’t need a lot of space. ... What I really like about him more than anything is probably the way I see him working between the tackles. He’s not just a perimeter player."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Blue reportedly got off to a slow start this spring but has built momentum early in training camp. He started getting reps with the first-team offense earlier this week.
Like Sproles, Blue is undersized at 5'9 and 196 pounds. But he blazed a 4.38-second 40 time at the Combine -- faster than Sproles' 4.47.
Blue was a big-play machine at Texas, averaging 5.4 yards per carry and 9.0 yards per catch. He topped out at just 134 carries in college and will likely never be a high-volume runner in the NFL. But Blue's explosiveness and pass-catching ability could make him a fantasy asset even on 10-15 touches per game.
We'll continue to keep an eye on Blue's standing in this wide-open Cowboys backfield. He's a fine target at his RB45 ADP.
