In an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Chargers QB Justin Herbert stressed the importance of using his legs to extend plays–something he believes the team must emphasize this upcoming season.
What They're Saying
Herbert: “Being able to scramble, extend plays on my feet. I think that’s something I wasn’t really able to do much of last year, but is still a huge part of my game and something that we need to do this year.”
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Herbert quietly posted career-highs in carries (69) and rushing yards (306), though he could have run even more if it weren’t for multiple foot injuries. Of his 69 rush attempts, only 15 were designed, but OC Greg Roman likely would have called Herbert’s number more if not for an ankle sprain that hampered him during the first half of the season.
The overall passing numbers remained strong–23 TDs, 3 INTs, 3,870 yards–but the lack of volume and rushing limited Herbert to a QB14 finish in fantasy. With HC Jim Harbaugh committed to establishing the run, a larger share of the workload could shift towards Herbert. If it does, it could be exactly what propels him back into the upper echelon of fantasy signal callers.
