According to Stephen Holder of ESPN, QB Anthony Richardson is set to start Week 1 of the preseason, with Daniel Jones set to debut in Week 2.
What They're Saying
Holder: “News: Anthony Richardson will start Thursday’s game against the Ravens, according to Shane Steichen. Daniel Jones will start Week 2 vs Green Bay.”
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
The Colts QB competition is arguably the most compelling storyline of training camp, and it appears Richardson has the slight edge. HC Shane Steichen recently mentioned that Richardson has been playing at “a high level” thus far, though he and Jones were essentially listed as co-starters on the Colts first unofficial depth chart.
Richardson flashed fantasy upside down the stretch last season, posting fantasy finishes of QB4, QB9, QB16 and QB14 in four of his last five games. During that stretch, he averaged 51.4 rushing yards, seven designed rush attempts and 19.4 fantasy points per game. While the sample size remains limited, Richardson has averaged 0.63 and 0.81 fantasy points per dropback through his first two NFL seasons, good for fifth and second in the league. There’s obvious risk but being selected outside the top-25 fantasy QBs, Richardson offers plenty of upside, too.
We’ll see how this competition plays out over the course of the preseason. But as we saw last year, Indianapolis’ skill position players had pretty glaring splits depending on who was under center for the Colts.
