Chargers LT Rashawn Slater was carted off the field with a leg injury on Thursday, and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, suffered a ruptured patella tendon, ending his season.
What They're Saying
Schefter: “Chargers OT Rashawn Slater, who signed a four-year, $113 million extension last month and then was carted off the practice field today, suffered a season-ending ruptured patella tendon, pending further testing, sources say.”
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Brutal.
Slater is one of the best tackles in all of football, and the protector of QB Justin Herbert’s blind side, making this a devastating loss. Fresh off a well-deserved contract extension, Slater missed two games this past season–Weeks 4 and 18– and it was evident. Herbert faced pressure on 41.4% and 26.3% of dropbacks during those games, respectively. The run game also suffered, as the Chargers averaged just 1.6 yards before contact per attempt with Slater off the field.
With Slater sidelined, expect RT Joe Alt to kick over to LT, where he played in college. Meanwhile, Trey Pipkins will likely get the first crack at playing RT. The loss of Slater should impact Herbert and RB Omarion Hampton’s spots in fantasy rankings. He’s that impactful of a player.
