Atlanta Falcons RT Kaleb McGary will miss time with an apparent leg injury, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Fowler: “Falcons RT Kaleb McGary will miss time on the apparent leg injury suffered Wednesday, per source, who added the exact timetable was not immediately known, but for now he’s out of the lineup.”
With OT Storm Norton out 6-8 weeks with an ankle injury and C Drew Dalman now in Chicago, holes have begun to show in what was once a formidable Falcons offensive line.
McGary is a key cog in the run game, and RB Bijan Robinson would often run his way. 49% of Robinson’s rush attempts last year went to the right side of the formation behind McGary, where he averaged 5.0 YPC. Losing McGary to start the year isn’t going to move Robinson in fantasy rankings, but don’t be surprised if the efficiency takes a hit.
McGary's absence also impacts sophomore QB Michael Penix Jr. Because Penix Jr. is left-handed, McGary was responsible for his blind side. But with McGary and Norton sidelined, Atlanta could be starting a third-string tackle in Week 1.
