49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (calf) told reporters after Friday's practice that he "feels great" and expects to play against the Seahawks on Sunday.
What They're Saying
McCaffrey: “I always plan to play. I feel great about where I'm at. Unfortunately, when you have the injury history that I have, sometimes when you don't practice, things get blown out of proportion. But like I said, I feel great. ... I'm not supposed to go into anything that happened, but I felt like it was the smart thing to do to not finish the practice (Thursday). I've been there before and I've been my own worst enemy in situations like that and I was proud of myself for not doing that again. Like I said, I went through a whole training camp. I feel great about where I'm at."

McCaffrey's words would have us feeling better about his status if he didn't also sound confident ahead of last year's opener. We know how that turned out.
More encouraging than McCaffrey's words was the warmup he was able to get in at the start of Friday's practice. It doesn't seem like he's dealing with a serious calf injury. But his status for Sunday's opener remains uncertain. And there will be some level of re-injury risk if he does suit up.
We'll continue to keep you updated on McCaffrey's status.
