Eagles WR DeVonta Smith posted just 4 receptions and 53 yards in Sunday's win over the Chiefs. But that accounted for 52.5% of Philadelphia's receiving yardage in a game that saw Jalen Hurts throw for just 101. Smith's six targets ranked second (behind A.J. Brown's eight) and constituted 27.3% of Hurts' total pass attempts. Smith did appear to hurt his back early in the second half, visiting the blue medical tent after coming down hard on a reception attempt. He returned, though, and snagged a 28-yard fourth-quarter catch that helped seal the victory.
What They're Saying
Hurts after the game: "He came down on his back, but he came up in the clutch. What more could you ask for?"
John Clark of NBC Sports Philly: "DeVonta is so tough. He was seen walking very gingerly after the game. He came down hard on his back and went to the medical tent, but came back in and made the biggest catch of the game for the Eagles."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
We'll watch for any effects from the back issue this week, but Smith's return against the Chiefs suggests he should be fine.
The Eagles passing game probably will as well, though this marked a second straight unimpressive aerial performance to open the year.
Smith and Brown each rebounded in targets vs. the opener and combined to draw 63.6% of Hurts' total attempts. But fantasy managers are going to need more.
Last year found Smith catching seven balls and tallying 76+ yards in each of the first three games, though two of those came with Brown injured. Hurts attempted 30+ passes in four straight games to open that campaign and threw for 264+ yards in three of the first five games.
A home date with the Rams in Week 3 and Week 4 visit to Tampa Bay present interesting matchups. Saquon Barkley dominated last year's visit to L.A. (26-255-2 on the ground; 4-47 receiving). The Week 4 loss at Tampa found Smith and Brown both missing for injuries.
Both games hold some shootout potential.
