ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that 49ers QB Brock Purdy is not expected to start Sunday's game, setting up Mac Jones to make his second consecutive start.

Per Schefter's report, HC Kyle Shanahan told the media that Purdy is "highly unlikely" to start but could still be active. Mac Jones is expected to start in Sunday's game. The 49ers are 2.5-point favorites at home against the Arizona Cardinals.
Shanahan has not always been forthcoming about injury information, but on the surface, playing Purdy off the bench doesn't make a lot of sense. The 49ers are favored to win and have a competent backup in Jones, who went 26-of-39 for 279 yards and 3 TD throws last week in San Francisco's 26-21 victory in New Orleans.
Purdy, and the Niners, would probably be better suited to give Purdy another full week to recover from the to injury that he suffered in Week 1.
For now, we're approaching this game as if Jones will be under center for the entire game. Jones is a decent QB2 in our Week 3 QB rankings.
