Chargers QB Justin Herbert tallied a career-high 420 yards on 37-of-55 passing in Sunday's loss to the Colts. It was the second 400-yard game of his career, coming two years after Herbert threw for 405 at Minnesota in September 2023. Herbert tossed three TD passes and a pair of INTs in a game that found him playing from behind the whole way. The Colts scored first, jumped to a 10-point lead early in the second quarter, and led by 20 at the end of the first half. That obviously helped drive big passing volume for L.A., which threw 35 second-half passes.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Herbert now leads the league in pass attempts and passing yards for an offense that ranks second in neutral pass rate, according to RBSDM.com. Only the Chiefs are passing at a higher rate in neutral situations.
That practice isn't likely to shift for the Chargers, especially while RB Omarion Hampton remains out. But the schedule might be getting tougher for Herbert's scoring.
According to our strength of schedule page, L.A. gets the eighth-toughest QB-scoring slate the rest of the way, including just three positive matchups among the final nine games:
The negative matchups start with Thursday night's Vikings visit, but Minnesota just finished allowing Jalen Hurts a season-high 326 yards in a Week 7 loss to the Eagles.
Herbert ultimately doesn't look like a guy we should downgrade. His playoff weeks include a neutral Week 15 visit to Kansas City, which already allowed Herbert 318 yards and 3 TDs in this year's first meeting; and a Week 16 visit to Dallas, which has been the league's best matchup for QB scoring this season.
Week 17, however, brings Houston. The Texans enter Monday night as the league's most difficult QB matchup by a wide margin.
As you carry a Herbert-led fantasy lineup toward the end of the year, keep that championship-week matchup in mind and consider adding a strong potential Week 17 replacement.
We'll see as the time draws closer exactly who we're willing to start over the Chargers QB. Two early contenders:
Jordan Love (vs. Baltimore)
Brock Purdy (vs. Chicago)
