WR Travis Hunter led the Jaguars with eight targets in his NFL debut Sunday. He caught six of them (also a team high) for 33 yards. Hunter actually ranked third among Jags receivers in playing time, staying on the field for 63.6% of the offensive snaps and running a route on 81.8% of dropbacks. That number narrowly trailed No. 2 Dyami Brown (84.8%), though, and also fell not far behind Brian Thomas Jr. (27 routes vs. 33).
According to Pro Football Focus, Hunter spent 69% of his snaps in the slot, which has been a high-upside role in Liam Coen offenses. The history there includes Chris Godwin for last year's Buccaneers (over the first seven games, before his ankle injury), and Wan'Dale Robinson at Kentucky.
Hunter played just six snaps on defense, so it's clear the Jaguars want him focused on receiver first.
The specifics are likely to vary by week/matchup, but the offensive focus matters most for Hunter's fantasy outlook.
Jacksonville's pass offense endured a disappointing Week 1, especially against a Carolina D that ranked second-worst in pass-defense DVOA last season. That'll need to improve if Hunter -- or anyone else -- is going to deliver season-altering upside.
