The fantasy-unfriendly three-man backfield committee that the Washington Commanders utilized in Week 3 carried over into Week 4. The Commanders had some success on the ground, rushing 22 times for 147 yards (6.7 yards per carry), but ultimately came up short, losing 34-27 in Atlanta.
All three of Washington's RBs played, with varying success.
• Jacory Croskey-Merritt 20 snaps, 9 touches, 57 yards
• Chris Rodriguez 20 snaps, 7 touches, 59 yards
• Jeremy McNichols 19 snaps, 3 touches, 3 yards
Rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt drew the start. He rushed 7 times for 47 yards and caught both of his target for 10 yards.
Chris Rodriguez was the next man up and rushed 7 times for 59 yards. The majority of that came on a 48-yard jaunt, while his other 6 carries went for 11. He was not targeted in the passing game.
Jeremy McNichols, who figured to play more of a role in the passing game, only drew one target. His 2 rushes only went for 3 yards.
Croskey-Merritt earned multiple looks in the passing game for the first time and was the only RB to catch a pass in Atlanta. This is a positive development for the rookie, who had limited pass-catching experience.
Rodriguez made another big play and figures to be the first option in short-yardage.
McNichols isn't getting enough targets to be a credible fantasy option.
What we're hoping to see is Croskey-Merritt's role in the passing game grow, but until that happens, he and Rodriguez are merely bye-week flex options.
