The Saints surprisingly kept this game close. They trailed by only two at the midway point of the fourth quarter, as Buffalo didn’t pull away until late.

Allen still didn’t benefit from boosted pass attempts. On a relatively light 57 offensive plays, Allen threw only 22 passes. He’s now posted fewer than 30 passes in three straight.

Pass protection proved problematic at times. One reason why: The absence of RT Spencer Brown. Replacement Ryan Van Demark -- a former UDFA -- struggled to contain the Saints' pass rush.

Allen’s TDs went to Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid. Shakir did most of the work on a 43-yard screen pass score in the first quarter. Later, Allen hit a wide open Kincaid along the sideline for a 28-yard score.

Bottom line: Allen remains a no-doubt QB1 for the road ahead. Next up is a matchup with New England.
