The Texans opened Monday night's game at Seattle without No. 2 WR Christian Kirk (hamstring injury). They lost WR Nico Collins to a fourth-quarter concussion. And they completed just six passes for the game to WRs not named Collins ... among 49 total pass attempts. TE Dalton Schultz took advantage of the situation, matching Collins' team lead in targets (10) and easily leading all Texans with 9 receptions and 98 yards in the loss.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Schultz wound up ranking second among Texans in pass routes, running 40 of them among 54 C.J. Stroud dropbacks (74.1%).
Here's how routes got distributed among the team's WRs:
- Xavier Hutchinson -- 42
- Jayden Higgins -- 33
- Braxton Berrios -- 26
- Jaylin Noel -- 26
TE Harrison Bryant also entered the mix, running 12 routes. (Though he didn't see a target.)
Noel and Collins were the only WRs to catch more than one pass for the game. Noel's seven targets ranked third, behind Collins and Schultz. Hutchinson made 1 catch among four targets. Berrios and Higgins drew three targets a piece. Berrios supplied the only catch between them.
What's Next?
Collins seems likely to miss at least one game with his concussion. We'll see about Kirk's hamstring, but a struggling Houston offense could hit Sunday's clash with San Francisco down its top two WRs.
That obviously boosts Schultz's chances of remaining featured. He owns a team-high 30 catches for the season and has snagged 5+ balls in four straight games. Schultz is already more than halfway to his reception total for either of his first two Houston seasons (59 and 53).
Other Winners & Losers
At WR, we'll see.
Hutchinson looks like the best bet for playing time and involvement. But Monday night marked the first time this season he has exceeded three targets. He has 13 catches through six games and has yet to top 30 yards in a contest this year.
Noel might be the (low) upside play if Kirk remains out. He had just 5 catches before posting a 4-77 receiving line against Seattle but generated buzz in the summer after arriving as a third-round pick.
