Tampa Bay Times beat writer Rick Stroud reported that Tampa Bay Buccaneers' RB Bucky Irving is not expected to play in Week 12 and has "struggled emotionally" after suffering his first significant injury of his career. Irving has been out since Week 4 with a foot sprain. There was some optimism that Irving would return this week after he participated in a limited practice session again on Wednesday. However, it looks like the Buccaneers will once again turn to the backfield duo of Rachaad White and Sean Tucker in a tough spot on Sunday night in Los Angeles to take on a formidable Rams' defense.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Per Stroud's report, Irving has struggled mentally with being away from his team for an extended period for the first time in his career.
Irving has also dealt with the loss of family members, which has taken a toll on his well-being.
The second-year RB practiced in a limited capacity last week and was a full participant on Thursday, but the Buccaneers are expected to rule him out once again for Sunday night's matchup.
Tampa will continue to utilize its effective tandem of Rachaad White and Sean Tucker in Week 12. The duo combined to produce 202 scrimmage yards and 3 TDs last week in Tampa's 44-32 loss in Buffalo.
In that game, White drew the start and played 59% of Tampa's snaps, including all the obvious passing downs and 2-minute snaps.
However, Tucker's role continues to grow. He played 46% of the Bucs' snaps and out-carried White 19-10. Tucker was also far more effective, rushing for 106 yards and scoring all 3 of the backfield's TDs.
That came against a Buffalo defense that has allowed the second-most fantasy points to RBs. In Week 12, both backs will find the going tougher against a Rams' defense that has allowed the third-fewest fantasy points to RBs.
As for Irving, he's trending in the right direction. He practiced in full on Thursday, so there is some optimism that he is drawing closer to a return.
After this week's trip to Los Angeles, Tampa has three straight home games against losing teams (Arizona, New Orleans, Atlanta). If he's able to return, Irving could be a strong RB2 down the stretch for patient fantasy managers that have kept him stashed for most of the season.
