Bears WR Luther Burden did not participate in Wednesday's training camp practice. The rookie was also sidelined for much of the spring with a hamstring injury. HC Ben Johnson said back in June that Burden would be ready for the start of camp. There have been no updates since then, though, so it's unclear if Burden suffered a setback or is dealing with a new injury.
Bears WR Luther Burden III hasn’t practiced since rookie minicamp in early May due to a soft tissue injury. However, HC Ben Johnson said this week that Burden's on track to suit up for the start of training camp.
The first episode of the Patriots' "Forged in Foxborough" web series revealed that the team had multiple offers for the 38th overall pick in the draft. Instead of moving, though, New England stayed and selected Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson. The offers:
Bears HC Ben Johnson sounded very excited about rookie WR Luther Burden in the team's post-draft press conference. "Stud," Johnson said of Burden. "He’s a playmaker waiting to happen. ... For 6 foot and 200+ pounds, it’s rare to see someone with his movement skills. He can stop on a dime and accelerate just like that. Give him a little bit of space, and he can make big things happen. A dangerous player and weapon. ... I see big things in his future."
The Bears selected Missouri WR Luther Burden III with the 39th pick of Round 2 in the 2025 NFL Draft. After a promising freshman season, Burden took the nation by storm in 2023 (86-1,209-9). The Missouri product ranked top-20 nationally in catches and yards. Playing a short-range role, he also averaged a huge 8.4 yards after catch per reception. There are questions off the field with allegations that Burden didn’t practice during his final season, excused by the team. He also ranked 22nd among Combine WRs in 2024 target share at 19.9%, and 21st among those WRs in PFF Receiving Grade with an 80.2. Now, his early breakout age of 18.7 shows NFL promise. And he still ranked fourth in this WR class in our predraft Rookie Model Score (7.86). His play style reminded us of former Packers WR Randall Cobb.
