The Giants are firing HC Brian Daboll, according to multiple reports. Daboll had been in the middle of his fourth year with the team, and things have gone downhill since a 2022 playoff trip opened his tenure with optimism. Those Giants went 9-7-1 and then beat the Vikings on the road in the Wild Card round (before getting smoked 38-7 at Philly). The 2023 Giants lost QB Daniel Jones early to an ACL tear and wound up 6-11. They dipped to 3-14 last season and have started this year 2-8, following Sunday's come-from-ahead loss at Chicago. OC Mike Kafka takes over as the interim head coach.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Giants say there's "no sense of urgency" to switch from QB Russell Wilson to first-round rookie Jaxson Dart. Wilson completed just 45.9% of his passes at 4.5 yards per attempt in a 15-point Week 1 loss at Washington.
The Giants have agreed to a two-year deal with QB Jameis Winston. NFL Network reports that it's worth $8 million total, clear backup money at the position. FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz adds, however, that incentives could push it as high as $16 million. Winston spent last year with the Browns after four seasons with the Saints. He turned 31 in January.
The Giants have agreed to a four-year deal with QB Daniel Jones. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the contract will pay him $160 million, with another $35 million available in incentives. And it pays $82 million over the first two years. The agreement came just before the franchise-tag deadline, allowing the Giants to use the tag on RB Saquon Barkley.
