Cowboys RBs Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah, and Hunter Luepke are active for today's game vs. the Giants. The matchup gives this backfield plenty of fantasy upside, but it's completely unclear how work will be divvied. Blue boasts an exciting combination of big-play and pass-catching ability but was not able to earn a role all season. Mafah, a seventh-round rookie, is more of a between-the-tackles grinder at 234 pounds. This will be his first action of the season. We'd avoid the situation in season-long leagues, but you can take fliers on Blue and/or Mafah in daily tournaments.

Cowboys RBs Javonte Williams (shoulder) and Malik Davis (calf, eye) are out for Sunday’s game vs. the Giants. That leaves RBs Hunter Luepke and Jaydon Blue on the active roster, with RBs Phil Mafah and Israel Abanikanda candidates to be elevated. We’ll see what moves Dallas makes leading up to kickoff and look for clues on the backfield plans. There’s fantasy upside to mine here with the matchup against the Giants’ 31st-ranked RB defense.

The Cowboys have placed rookie RB Phil Mafah on injured reserve, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Cowboys RB Phil Mafah has caught the eye of HC Brian Schottenheimer since the pads went on in training camp. "The guy Phil Mafah... I'm starting to feel him," Schottenheimer said. "I'm starting to feel Phil."

The Dallas Cowboys selected Clemson RB Phil Mafah with the 239th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Mafah was a four-star recruit in the 2021 class. He developed into the thunder to Will Shipley’s lightning in 2022, providing a boost in short yardage. As the offense changed heading into 2023, he earned a 1A role. Over the past two seasons, he ran for 2,080 yards and 22 TDs, showing excellent vision and toughness. Mafah may not be an elite athlete, but he makes up for it in technique and skill. Ultimately, he’s a long shot to become an NFL starter. Still, as a backup or injury fill-in, Mafah could excel in spurts. Note that he’s one of the biggest backs in this class at 234 pounds.
